Documentaries that I have filmed and produced

MSNBC: Umbrella Movement (2014)

Myself and eight classmates at the University of Hong Kong’s journalism school were commissioned by MSNBC to film a documentary about the 2014 Umbrella Movement protests. The documentary was divided into six chapters, each one exploring a theme or facet of the protests, and tied together by interviews with two prominent political figures.

I filmed the final chapter of the documentary, about a protester who had quit his job to run a supply stand on the protest site, and was disappointed that the movement had reached a stalemate.

The documentary was named an Honoree at the 2015 Webby Awards, and won the Grand Student prize at the Human Rights Press Awards 2014. The event was organised by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Hong Kong, Amnesty International Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Journalists’ Association.

BNN VARA: The Pen and the Sword (2016)

I worked as a fixer, researcher and interpreter for Dutch production company Episode One on a documentary about press freedom in Hong Kong. Titled The Pen and the Sword, the documentary is part of a six-part series on press freedom around the world. The team filmed in Uganda, Turkey, Russia, Colombia and Myanmar prior to their arrival in Hong Kong.
